Marsha Williamson, RN - Nurse Administrator
Marsha has been a Registered Nurse since 1978, graduating from LSU. After working for several years in the hospital setting and as a school nurse, she received an additional degree in Health Management. Upon returning to the hospital setting in 1990, she began working in the GI Lab as a staff nurse, charge nurse and manager. Marsha began working at Saints Streets Endoscopy as the Nurse Manager in 2004, becoming the Nurse Administrator in 2009. She is proud to have played a part in the growth of the center and to be actively involved in the exciting changes that are occurring – from the design and building of the LGEC facility, to the research studies and publications that are bringing so much recognition to the center.
Myia Johnson, RHIA- Business Office Manager
Myia graduated in 2003 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Information Management. In 2004, she completed her certification exam to become a Registered Health Information Administrator. She began working for the Gastroenterology Clinic of Acadiana after graduation as the Patient Accounts Manager. In 2005, she began working in the Endoscopy Center as Administrative Assistant and in 2007 took on the role of Business Office Manager. Myia is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of the center as well as managing the administrative assistant staff. Throughout her career, she has helped the center move towards visualizing its dream of being completely electronic. In 2007, she assisted the center in implementing a procedure documentation software that allowed the physicians to complete their operative reports electronically. Then, in 2009, she once again assisted the center in converting to an electronic medical record system that is integrated with the center’s physicians’ offices. By 2011, the center realized its dream of being completely electronic, a dream that Myia has proudly helped the center accomplish.
Administrative Assistant Staff
The administrative assistant staff at LGEC is responsible for the areas of registration; insurance verification and quoting; medical record processing; record requests; and generating the operative report for the physician during procedures – along with numerous other business and financial tasks. This staff was instrumental in transitioning our record system in the center from a paper chart to an electronic record format. The process of scanning all of the center’s paper charts to create the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) began in August, 2009 and was completed in June, 2010. This was an enormous undertaking and temporary “scanners” were hired to assist the regular administrative staff in this task. The new system eliminated the large amount of space required for storing paper records, provides rapid access and safeguards the records from being destroyed by a disaster such as hurricane, fire, tornado, etc. The EMR also allows our physicians to have immediate access to a patient’s endoscopy record from any location, (hospital, home, etc.) if the need arises.
LGEC utilizes Anesthesia Staff to administer sedation in the facility. Our physicians believe that this practice allows our patients to receive the highest quality sedation, achieving the greatest comfort for procedures, in the safest manner available in the outpatient setting. Sedation is administered through an infusing IV by a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), under the direction of an Anesthesiologist (a medical doctor with a specialty degree in anesthesia). Patients report an extremely high satisfaction rate with the anesthesia services in the facility. Having trained, professional anesthesia staff administer sedation, and monitor the patient during their procedure, allows the Gastroenterologist to concentrate entirely on performing the endoscopy examination.
Patient Care Staff
The patient care staff at LGEC consists of RN’s, LPN’s, GI Technicians, Scope Technicians and Discharge Clerks. All of these employees have specialized training in the field of Gastroenterology, in addition to the general knowledge required for their area of service. LGEC provides education and in-service on an ongoing basis to keep staff members updated with new technology and techniques in the GI field. The entire staff works as a team here at the center. The goal is to always provide the highest level of care and comfort to every patient.
